Barclays hires investment banking duo in Australia


Barclays has expanded its Australian investment banking unit with the hiring of two new chief executives.

Barclays appointed Duncan Beattie and Duncan Connellan as chief executives of investment banking in Australia, according to a statement, reporting to the country’s chief executive and Australia’s head of investment banking Richard Satchwell.

Based in Sydney, Beattie will lead the overall provision of international capital markets financing for Australian and New Zealand clients, while Connellan will focus on expanding coverage of financial sponsors, infrastructure funds and corporates. clients offering leveraged finance, acquisition finance and structured finance solutions.

Beattie has 30 years of capital markets experience, most recently at JP Morgan where he was the last head of the financial institutions group after 16 years as co-head of debt capital markets. Previously, he also worked for Nomura in London and KPMG in Glasgow.

Connellan joins Barclays from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group where he was Head of Strategic Finance and Acquisitions, Australia and New Zealand, for over four years. Previously, he worked at Barclays for six years, including as head of loan capital markets and leveraged finance, in Australia and New Zealand. Previously, he also worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland in London, the National Australia Bank in Melbourne and London, and for Bankers Trust in Sydney.
